Owyhee Sheet Metal started in 1946 by Lloyd McLaughlin featured heating and plumbing in Homedale, Idaho. About nine years later he moved the company to its current location in downtown Nampa at 1020 1st Street South, where it remains today. 

In 1965 Owyhee expanded to include Owyhee Hardware and became a True Value member in 1970. During 1970 Lloyd married Audra Erdley and the two ran the business until Lloyd’s death in 1988. At that time, ownership of the business was passed to Lloyd’s son, Vic McLaughlin, Audra’s daughter Karla Wojtach, and son, Brent Erdley. 

All three worked many years at the business before taking ownership. Vic started cleaning furnaces and sweeping up the warehouse as a teenager, soon thereafter he became an installer and then service manager. He now oversees the installation, service department, and sheet metal shop. Karla began with managing the hardware store and then became the bookkeeping assistant, before taking over the office in 1988. Brent started doing janitorial work, and as an installation helper, then moved over to the Hardware store as manager.   

Many employees have worked for the company for years, Gary Jenks, 36 years, began as a service technician and now is a salesman. Lorna Garner, 17 years, is the service dispatcher and receptionist, Ray Magee, 10 years, is an installer and the installation manager, Ginger Ward, 25, years, began at the service counter and then hardware store, before moving into the office and is now the assistant bookkeeper, Jim Avery, 17 years, has always worked in hardware and is now the assistant hardware manager and Rick Cardoza, 19 years, is an installer.
